In conclusion, the various improvements of the proposed “all-in-one” Tomtom Link 410 GPS tracking device will allow fleet companies to optimize their fleet’s efficiency and reduce operating costs in the long run.

Reflection for Technical Communication

I have improved a lot since the first lesson of this module. What I think is the most important thing of this module is the process of learning. I did not go through the lessons just passing twenty hours of my time, but to learn the skills that can further be used in my work life in the future. Through learning these skills, they made me more confident to present my own innovated product.

Teamwork is very important when it comes to submitting my part of the report. I feel that submitting late or the wrong information might affect the team and I want to do my part by making sure that I have done my job well. I have very bad time management but this module shows me how we should actually work on our time management. I have been improving and now I feel like I am not rushing or even submitting late reports. I feel satisfied with what I have done.

During the past few lessons, I was grouped with people who I was not familiar with but they were very friendly and patient with me. The first project with my groupmates, Ian and Syafiq, was a smooth and forwarding process. They knew what they were doing and could actually thought of an idea straight away. I was worried because I could not fully understand the product, but they spent time explaining to me and shared their ideas with me.

While working with my other team, it is also a good experience to me. We all had our strengths and weaknesses. Telson was good at knowing the objective of the report and Jie Lin shared good ideas with us so that we can further improve our report. This is what teamwork is all about. With this team spirit, we are able to excel much more.

I think in order to be able to understand what we have to do for the next lesson, we must be very attentive, and this is because you will never know the part that you missed is actually crucial. Professor Brad will always share stories about his life and I think they are very interesting because I will always feel motivated and inspired to learn English deeper.

I have worked in different kinds of part-time jobs including food and beverages, retail, ride operators and sales associate. These jobs provided me with different experiences. One in common is the requirement of customer services. I think I am able to speak better to my customers because I have learn from brad on how we should speak with confidence.

This module have improved my presenting skills and I am more confident now to stand in front of everyone and speak out. It has been a phobia to me to stand on a stage and speak. In my future job, I foresee that it requires communication skills and I am glad that I have overcome my fears now. I am prepared for the working world.

Lastly, I would like to thank brad for teaching me the skills that are necessary not only in the future but present. He tried to make this 20 hours a smoothing and educational journey and he succeeded. He is truly an inspiration to me.

Product Description Summary & Analysis Draft 3

According to the article “Telematics will change trucks and trucking” (Sean Kilcarr 2015), connectivity and opportunities created by data analysis is going to change trucks and the trucking industry. This introduces key benefits of having an electronic logging device, such as connecting truck drivers via smart phone applications, better utilization of data and mixing of data and video. The easy to deploy Saavy FleetTrac telematic device would facilitate connectivity for Telematics in trucking. It features a powerful antenna which allows concealed mounting within a vehicle. In the same article, Lau argued that “connectivity is the biggest enabler of a lot of potential benefits for this industry.” Through connectivity drivers avoid traffic congestion when operating night time schedules. This highlights how telematics in trucking would be highly beneficial to every truck driver.

For functionality, "Savvy Fleetrac can be adapted to the customer's specific context” .In order to meet the individual customer's truck specifications the Savvy FleetTrac adjustable, quick installation and requires no external antennae. Savvy FleetTrac stands out because it needs very little power to operate, so it meets all current and foreseeable environmental regulations. Low power usage allows for longer operating time.

Some of the changes connectivity would make in the industry would be allowing drivers to capitalise on data. The Saavy FleetTrac provides drivers with information in real-time via a portal and links it to a ”top quality map with all the relevant geo-information. An application of this would be avoid traffic congestion when operating night time schedules. This bring drivers benefits such as increased fuel economy. The software is Web-based and can be used without local installation conveniently through the Internet, via cloud, private cloud and on premises. Drivers could access via mobile devices from anywhere and at any time. Users of the Saavy FleetTrac receive a clear overview of their processes and can monitor their activities.

Savvy Fleetrac is more successful compared to other devices as it focus more on the user interface  and quick installation and requires no external antennae to meet users needs. Savvy Fleetrac concerns on what is going to happen before it happens, for example it can predict such as in the bad weather or even a trafiic jam. GeoTab GO7 is a smiliar product compared to Savvy FleetTrac According to their copporate profile “For over a decade, Geotab has been a proven industry leader in the area of fleet management and vehicle tracking technology, also known as telematics. Geotab’s advanced telematics is used to manage employee productivity and significantly reduce accidents.” Geotab helps manage the maintenance, inventorying and fuel management of the company's fleet vehicles. The difference between them is that Savvy FleetTrac focus more on the truck by the sensors, door and switch monitor. GO7 concern for the drivers safety and developed various productivity reports to help you visualize your fleet and driver activities throughout the day.

One of the main concerns would be information security. With data being garnered, hacking would disrupt telematics in trucking. The Savvy FleetTrac device transmits data securely via encryption. Additionally, data transmission checks ensures the safety of the information.

In conclusion, two way communication can take the guesswork out of handling unexpected situations on the road, such as bad weather or a major traffic jam. Also to keep track of all vehicles at all times, an especially important feature if a truck is stolen or damaged. This product is very useful for all truck users.

Product description

Telematics will change trucks and trucking

Telematics mainly benefit trucking through connectivity. This results in increased fuel economy, less vehicle downtime and higher productivity.More connected drivers via smartphone applications allows the use of data obtained to avoid traffic congestion and improves fatigue monitoring capability when operating during nighttime schedules.

The easy to deploy Saavy FleetTrac telematic device comes with a powerful antennae which allows concealed mounting even within a vehicle. The device uses GPS, GLONASS and GSM technology for higher precision tracking.

In-built rechargeable batteries with a 3-month charge life recharges automatically whenever possible even in low temperatures. The device is also environmentally friendly as a result of a low power consumption which in turn fulfils current and predictable environmental regulations.

I think that two way communication can take the guesswork out of handling unexpected situations on the road, such as bad weather or a major traffic jam. The GPS tracking and alerts let fleet managers keep track of all vehicles at all times, an especially important feature if a truck is stolen or damaged. Therefore, this product will be very helpful for all the trucks.

Formal Letter Writing

To: Brad
From: Marilyn
Date: 19 September 2016
Subject: Self Introduction of myself

Dear Brad,

My name is Marilyn Tan. I am currently studying telematics at Singapore Institute of Technology. I am writing this email to let you know more about myself.
I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic in May this year. I also studied in Fajar secondary school and completed my N and O levels which took about six years because I got promoted from normal technical to normal academic.

I love sports, especially sports that are both competitive and challenging. The recent sport that I am into right now is touch football which is similar to American football but with the tackling of opposing players replaced by a touch.

My goals for studying telematics is to invent something to help out on the transportation or further improve coding so that other people might be able to use the codes for further enhancement.
My aims for the future is to look at the changes of how telematics can change the world. Transportation will be the focus of the topic everyone is talking about. Vehicles are not travelling on wheels, through roads. All this can only happen if somebody starts to do something about it. What we have learnt will help change the future.

Thank you for taking your time reading this email. If you have question, you may email me and ask me. I will be more than willing to answer. I also want to know you more too because we have just met, I would like to hear more of your stories to success.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Tan
